High Pants, Fast Cars and Hot Dog Specials
March 09, 2009
After a good month of being addicted to watching The Rockford Files I still can't get enough. Not only is it nostalgic as it was one of the few shows I watched as a kid, there's something about the oft-on-location, film-based cinematography and zealous, overly-hot micing (sometimes it sounds as if Rockford has a mic in each pant leg catching every crunchy footstep), not to mention the self-deprecating, goofball characters and conflicts. The writing is hit and miss, but surprisingly good most of the time. It also almost makes me nostalgic for Los Angeles. Almost.
Jim always leads his (ubiquitous & beautiful) ladies by the arm, a disappearing habit of leading men.

Sorry for the grab, Gretchen Corbett you're actually quite a looker.
Nearly every episode has the obligatory car chase. The '70s (and '80s I guess) were definitely the heyday for stunt drivers. Unfortunately, this means they bang up a lot of nice old cars.

Rockford sports some unusual shoe choices.

I can relate to Rockford's shock at food costs in LA. He's flustered at having to pay $6 for two hot dog "specials" in this shot.

Check that waitress handwriting, yowza. Tax is still the same 30 years later.
Womens' pants had an unfortunate trend in the '70s.

They unfortunately attempted to "improve" and/or "modernize" the theme song after season one. Here's what appears to be an extended version of the original for your listening pleasure.
